Keep a Journal

The SportsLog app is a time tracker — and it’s just one tool you should use.  But time tracking alone isn’t enough.

You should also keep a notebook (or two) to speed your development. A notebook is easier to flip through, easier to write detailed notes in, and easier to review over time. It also won’t crack when a dumbbell gets dropped on it in the weight room.

  • If you learn something new from a coach, book, article, or video —> write it down.

  • If you find an especially helpful diagram, table, or image —> sketch it — or print it and tape it inside.

  • Collect hints, tricks, and tips, and your understanding of the game will grow.

The more seriously you take learning about your sport, the more impressive your progress will be.

  • Know more than your teammates.

  • Understand the rules better than the refs.

  • Develop strategies better than your coaches.

Consider using two journals:

1. Mental Preparation / Game Knowledge

  • Take notes on what you read - strategies or new techniques.

  • Write down insights from videos or film review

  • Reflections after practices and games

2. Physical Training

  • Speed, agility, and plyometrics workouts

  • Strength training routines (lifts, sets, reps, progress)

  • Conditioning notes and adjustments

So why not just keep notes in the app?

  • Because organizing your thoughts on paper is different.

  • Because rediscovering old notes sparks learning.

  • Because writing something down makes it more memorable than a screenshot that gets lost in your camera roll.

Track your time with the app.
Track your growth with a journal.

Use both, and you’ll build skills, knowledge, and discipline that separate you from the competition.
